Staying Safe and Aware Online

Way to Win

Since the beginning of this pandemic, we have focused on supporting a culture of resilience and safety for the entire breadth of the movement.

We know that the transition to organising-from-home may pose challenges for movement organisations and for families who must adapt to working and learning together online. This shift online will unfortunately open doors to security risks and cyber threats. Progressive organisations, philanthropic institutions, and individuals and families have already become high-profile targets. However, by infusing our culture of resilience and safety into our online work, we can minimise the risks that come with learning- and organising-from-home.

Way to Win hosted our most recent digital security workshop for our community at Way Forward 2019, and we’ve distilled our workshop down to eight best practices.

While our best defense is our own vigilance, it doesn’t mean that we have to do this alone. It may be helpful to meet with your leadership team and assign an owner to ensure digital security moves at the speed of trust. For example, Way to Win’s digital security and business continuity teams are housed in the Office of the President, and we prioritised supporting staff and expanding our Employee Assistance Programs before asking staff to review security protocols.

Your organisation may have specific needs because of your membership or the communities you serve. Thank you to everyone who attended our community digital security workshop in 2019!
