Dear Friends,

As a digital-first team, we’re used to working from home. But as parents, caregivers, teachers, and organisers, we’re also deeply rooted in our home communities across the country. The spread of COVID-19 has brought all of us new responsibilities and obligations, and we’ve heard from our staff that they intend to rise to the challenge.

We’re making changes to how we meet so that we can continue to provide essential services to the movement and allow our team to fully meet their responsibilities to family and community. You can still expect professional responses grounded in love for people and community, but you may notice some changes at Way to Win meetings or when meeting with Way to Win staff.

The Way to Win team is in seven states across five time zones, so there’s no one-size-fits-all solution for us. Each of our departments set their own operating norms to fit their needs, but in general:

  • We may have limited availability for meetings so that we can focus on work blocks and other obligations.
  • We may respond after-hours so that we can take care of other things during the day. Even if we respond after-hours, we don’t expect you to.
  • We may need to schedule shorter meetings so that we have a break if we’re back-to-back.
  • We may request that you email information before, or instead of, meeting so that we can spend more time in conversation.
  • We may dress casually or have family interrupt video calls. We know it’s a privilege to work from home with our families, but that sometimes creates different expectations.

For the safety of our staff and guests, we have also increased the security of our Zoom meetings in line with recommendations from the FBI and our digital security vendor. Way to Win has a robust digital security infrastructure in place, which we shared with the community at Way Forward in 2019. This week, we will also share more about the steps you can take to keep you and your information safe online.

In solidarity,
Tori Miyagi
Chief Of Staff
