To our community,

I had hoped to have met many of you in-person again by this time of year, but so much has happened in just the first few months of 2020. As we make our way through April, I am struck by steadfast leadership of our community and by the amazing progress we have made together. From our grantees to staff to donors, the Way to Win community is showing the very best of our beloved movement.

I cannot be with you now, but I hope you watch this first quarter update for more about what we’ve been doing.

Although COVID-19 impacts almost every aspect of our work, we know that it is not a one-off challenge for our most vulnerable communities already affected by the climate crisis, growing inequality, and declining civic health. Accordingly, we have marshalled every resource to keep faith with the movement leaders we take our cues from.

With your help, we were able to move over $15 million into movement organizations in the first three months of the year. Over $10.4 million moved directly from our funds, and I’m incredibly proud of our political and operations teams for releasing $3.7 million in rapid-response grants to stabilize the sector within days of the first stay-at-home order.

We are stronger when we come together in moments of joy and celebration — and of illness and crisis. Our members’ listserv is full of stories of action and mutual aid, and we hear constantly from movement leaders about the innovations and adaptations they are organizing. I hope you will continue to be in community with us as we celebrate the victories large and small and as we plan for the work ahead. Whether it’s an upcoming webinar or a family-friendly social hour, you can count on us to lead with heart and own our power.

We’re just getting started. Thank you for all you do, and take good care.
